Interview: Röyksopp and Robyn chat to The Guardian

Robyn and Royksopp

“The Girl and the Robot is a masterclass in bold, modern pop – a electronic floor-filler about a woman who misses her robotic partner, weeps that no one sings songs for her, and sits by the phone feeling alone. It is also the grandest-sounding song that either Robyn or Röyksopp have ever made, and the video reflects that. The normally tomboyish Robyn dressed up for it, she laughs, “like a glamourpuss”, while Röyksopp sidestepped their shyness to star in one of their own videos for the first time.”

Interesting interview. But why isn’t TGATR getting any airplay?? I’ve yet to hear it on BBC Radio 1.Usually strong singles such as this get played to death weeks even months before the release date, but as yet nothing.
Come on Royksopp…who’s plugging the single for you.Whoever it is they’re not working hard enough, especially as the UK has gone into a synth frenzy with La Roux and Little Boots.

I have never really heard of Royksopp before, until I purchased your new album, Junior, from HMV. My favourite track on the album is The Girl and The Robot, most probably because I also like Robyn’s music as well. But I have listened to each track, and I believe this is one of the best pop albums of the year.

However, I have also noticed that BBC Radio 1 is not giving The Girl and The Robot any airplay as well. What is more, I have yet to see the video for this single, on music channels such as 4Music and TMF. Have you released the video for such channels as those mentioned? Furthermore, will the single be available from record stores on digital CD format?

Right Royksopp, I am desperate to see the new stuff live and see what you do with it. Plus i also hear you have a new version of eple, and since I havent seen you live in a good few years, I think its time to get a UK tour together.

I know that you normally only tour once per album, but i was hoping to get a Junior tour and a Senior tour and not just one tour for both albums.

What can I say guys? You are magnificent. I have been a fan of yours ever since the Melody A.M. track ‘So Easy was featured in T Mobile adverts with the picture of the baby. Sparks was my favourite track even though the whole album was monumental. Anyway, fast forward, The Understanding was also amazing. Too many tracks to pick out a fave but if I have to, I’d say…Alpha Male (I’m a producer myself and I admire this track for it’s progression. How it’s melodies take the listener on a journey of discovery) I also love Sombre Detune, Only This Moment. My good friend bought me this album for christmas some years back….
Okay, to the point….The Girl And The Robot….favourite tune of the album but then it’s still new to me and I’m kinda biased as in I love anything you guys do. I have to admit though, I haven’t heard this track played anywhere. I mean, I have the Junior album so it’s not a problem with me and I don’t really listen to the radio as I listen to music I produce and of my favourite artists but I have seen no evidence of airplay for to be honest, a lot of your music which isn’t fair and needs to be corrected. i agree with the first comment from Chrisf 242. Whoever is responsible for plugging your tunes is failing you!…..
On the flip side, the track is going to be massive. great work. Keep it up and I can’t wait to see you guys perform. Royksopp Forever……
